Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) is an advanced procedure combining endoscopy with high-frequency ultrasound imaging to produce detailed pictures of the digestive tract wall and nearby organs — including the pancreas, bile ducts, liver, and lymph nodes. It provides significantly better resolution than external (transabdominal) ultrasound for evaluating these structures.

When is EUS Used?

  • Evaluation and staging of pancreatic masses and cysts

  • Detection of bile duct stones not seen on other imaging

  • Staging of esophageal, gastric, and rectal cancers

  • Evaluation of submucosal lesions in the GI tract

  • Guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) biopsy of lymph nodes or masses

  • Evaluation of chronic pancreatitis

Our EUS Trained Specialists

Drs. Kunal Grover and Michael Viksjo are trained in endoscopic ultrasound, offering patients access to this advanced diagnostic tool within our practice. EUS is a specialized skill requiring advanced fellowship training beyond standard gastroenterology.
